Mfangano and its neighboring islands (Remba, Ringiti and Takawiri) have a population of over 35,000
people. HIV/AIDS prevalence is rated high in these islands compared to other areas within Suba North
Sub-County. Many families have suffered results of the vice, as can be seen through increased orphan-
hood, poverty, stigma and discrimination, child-headed families, among many other results.
LL CB realized the holistic poor development among the community members and seeks to address challenges
that face children, youths, widows, people with disability and aged people by providing shelter,
education, spiritual and economic support, among other services. It also advocates against cultural
law of wife inheritance, which has led to much spread of the vice.
Our goal is to expose the love, care and compassion of God to His people. In order to effectively meet our goal, the LL CBO formed three programs known as New Life Aged & Disabled Care, Leadership Training to church leaders and Missions to Schools, villages and Fishing Beaches, destined their activities as stated below:
Constructing Houses for Widows and Disabled persons
Providing food and other household items
This seek to address the spiritual needs for the society with specific focus on teaching to equip church leaders so that they can be effective in the ministries.
It is a program that promotes abstinence based on the word of God to the young by teaching them how to live pure and holy. It aims at preventing them from contacting HIV and AIDS and STIs and other dangers they may encounteras a result of early sexual activity. The progrma is conducted in camps, schools and fishing villages. .
Mfangano Island lies in the eastern part of Lake Victoria, at the mouth of the Winam Gulf. Part of Kenya, it lies west of Rusinga Island.
