About us

Lakeside Lampstand CBO(LLCBO) is a non-denominational, non-political, Christian Community-Based Organization, founded in the year 2003 by Pastor Joshua Nyicula Onyango, native of Mfangano Island, Kenya.It is dedicated to work with children,families and communities to reach thier full potential by addressing the cause of poverty and injustice. The organization is registered with the Government of Kenya under Ministry of Gender, Children Affairs and Social Development as a Community Based Organization (CBO) in 2009. Apart from local partnership, the Organization also invites International Organizations and volunteers to respond to its goals and objectives.

What we do
  • Solicit funds to help build homes for Aged, widows and people living with disability. The homes are built on their lands..
  • Sponsor needy children where orphans are given first priority, to continue with their higher education.
  • Offer health care to the needy and community at large.
  • Aged and Disabled being supported in many areas of their needs. This is a Home Based program.

  • Reach out to the community with The Gospel of Jesus Christ for their salvation and life changing.
  • Run Biblical trainings for Church Leaders.
  • Missions to public and private school.
  • Creation of Income Generating Activities as means of cracking down poverty among members and those identified needy persons in the community.
  • Advocating for girl child following immoral cases they encounter e.g early pregnancy,rape and others..
Missision Statament

Mfangano and its neighboring islands (Remba, Ringiti and Takawiri) have a population of over 35,000 people. HIV/AIDS prevalence is rated high in these islands compared to other areas within Suba North Sub-County. Many families have suffered results of the vice, as can be seen through increased orphan- hood, poverty, stigma and discrimination, child-headed families, among many other results. Read more...
LL CB realized the holistic poor development among the community members and seeks to address challenges that face children, youths, widows,people with disability and aged people by providing shelter, education, spiritual and economic support, among other services. It also advocates against cultural law of wife inheritance, which has led to much spread of the vice.

Our Goals

Our goal is to expose the love, care and compassion of God to His people. In order to effectively meet our goal, the LL CBO formed three programs known as New Life Aged & Disabled Care, Leadership Training to church leaders and Missions to Schools,villages and Fishing Beaches, destined their activities as stated below:

This seek to address the spiritual needs for the society with specific focus on teaching to equip church leaders so that they can be effective in the ministries.

Mission to Schools

It is a program that promotes abstinence based on the word of God to the young by teaching them how to live pure and holy. It aims at preventing them from contacting HIV and AIDS and STIs and other dangers they may encounteras a result of early sexual activity. The progrma is conducted in camps,schools and fishing villages. .

The Mfangano Island

Mfangano Island lies in the eastern part of Lake Victoria, at the mouth of the Winam Gulf. Part of Kenya, it lies west of Rusinga Island. The island is 65 kmĀ² in area and rises to 1,694 m at Mount Kwitutu. It had a population of 16,282 as of 1999 census of population. Administratively, Mfangano is one of five divisions of Suba District of Nyanza Province

We therefore appeal to our well-wishers and good Samaritans to extend their hand to this noble task since the Organization does not have a committed donor at present. Your input will bring a change in the lives of many destitute families in this part of the world. Remember, we share the same Globe. We need one another for us to survive in it.Join Us

Our Portfolio

The LL CBO is located on Mfangano Island, Suba North sub-county,Homa Bay County, Nyanza Region, Kenya. Mfangano Island is situated about 30kms from Mbita town across Lake Victoria. LL CBO is managed by a board of management of both men and women of God.

2018-2019 Anticipation

Construct six more houses for six widows who seriously are in need and now live miserably with their grandchildren who are orphaned.
Construct a Hall/Kitchen to be used for Camping (at New Life Centre. This will reduce expenses we encounter during camping session when we are forced to hire a hall.
Construct a Health Unit/Office at the New Life Centre.
Fence New Life Centre.
Continue with feeding program.
Sponsor orphaned children in their education, especially those in colleges.
